But it’s also the time when the kids and I are most relaxed with our learning. Even though we have school year-round, we tend to take it easy during the summer months. It gives us more time for the beach (a requirement each year).

So it’s always fun to try some easy summer crafts during our learning downtime. And that’s why I love this easy paper roll rocket craft!

It’s a simple project that you can make with the kids in just a few minutes. And, if you’re studying space over the summer, it’d be a perfect fit for a solar system unit study!

Easy Paper Roll Rocket Craft for Kids

I love how simple this project is! It’s perfect for crafting with the kids during summer break. 

Plus, it’s fun to take outside and pretend to fly. Just hand one to your little one and watch them zoom around pretending to take off into space!

To make this simple paper rocket craft for kids, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

• Colored cardstock
• Paper towel roll
• Washable paint
• Scissors
• Paintbrush
• Hot glue sticks
• Hot glue gun

To start, cut the paper towel roll into two pieces. One piece should be slightly longer than the other.

We’re making two paper roll rocket crafts out of one paper towel roll.

Paint each piece of the paper towel roll. We used a yellow paint, but any color will do.

Let the paint dry completely.

Trace the lid of a mason jar or cup twice onto a colored piece of cardstock. You will be making one cone-shaped top for each rocket.

Use scissors to cut out each circle. Afterward, cut one slit to the center on each circle.

Remember: if you want the kids to help with this part, use child-safe scissors that are safe for little fingers.

Form each circle into a cone shape by pulling the two ends together. Use the hot glue gun to seal each cone closed.

NOTE: Use caution with working with hot glue around small children.

Now cut four triangles about three to four inches wide from the colored cardstock. You’ll use two of these for each rocket.

Working from the top of each triangle, cut a slit from the point down, stopping just before the bottom of each triangle.

Carefully cut four slits onto the bottom of each painted tube. Make sure that each cut is directly across from the cut on the opposite side. 

Slide one triangle up through two bottom slits. The triangle should be placed in two slits that are diagonal.

Then slide the second triangle through the other two slits. This triangle will crisscross the other, forming an X at the bottom of the rocket.

Now cut six quarter-sized circles from the colored cardstock.

Use the hot glue gun to glue three circles onto each paper towel roll.

And we’re done! Look how bright and colorful these rocket crafts are!

Even though I’m not the biggest fan of bugs, I adore little ladybugs. They’re so dainty and delicate that I almost don’t even consider them bugs. They’re more like debutantes that just happen to have wings and more than two legs.

Since we’ve been busy making coffee filter crafts for kids over the past few weeks (and because I’m still no closer to using up my 350 coffee filters), I thought we’d make a fun and simple coffee filter ladybug craft! This is a fabulous crafting project for young kids or big groups of children, especially if you need something that doesn’t require a lot of supplies.

Coffee Filter Craft for Kids: Coffee Filter Ladybug Craft

To make this coffee filter ladybug craft, you’ll need the following craft supplies: (Affiliate links are provided here for your convenience. For more, see our Disclosure Policy.)

• One white basket-style coffee filter
• Crayons
• Construction paper
• Child-safe scissors
• Glue stick

Before you get started, remember to flatten out the coffee filter. A simple way to do it is to lay it on a table and rest a book on top for an hour or so.

Draw a small semi-circle at the edge of one side of the filter. Then use a black crayon to draw a line down the center of the rest of the coffee filter.

Color both halves of the filter red.

Now color the semi-circle black. Use a glue stick to glue the coffee filter onto a piece of construction paper.

Cut four rough circles out of a piece of black construction paper.

Use the glue stick to glue two black circles on either side of the ladybug.

Add six legs to your ladybug and a few blades of grass and you’re done!

This was such a simple craft that you can easily make it with the kids in a few minutes. Perfect for reinforcing scissor skills, coloring, and pasting!

Spring is a great time to get into crafting with your kids. There are so many fun and easy craft ideas for spring that you can make with almost no extra supplies at all!

We’ve been making lots of coffee filter crafts for kids lately and, with spring coming, I thought it was a good time to share this super simple coffee filter flower craft!

Like our coffee filter basketball craft, this is one that you only need a handful of supplies to make. And I can almost guarantee that you have them in your pantry already.

Coffee Filter Crafts for Kids: Coffee Filter Flower Craft

To make this, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For more, see our Disclosure Policy.)

• Two white basket coffee filters
• Crayons or markers
• Construction paper
• Glue stick

Start by flattening out two white coffee filters. Use a bright color to color the center of each filter completely.

Use a glue stick to glue the filter centers onto separate pieces of construction paper.

Then use a green crayon to draw a flower stem and leaves.

You can make these flowers using almost any colors you like!

Make a pair to give to a friend this spring!

You could also overlap the two “flowers” and glue them to one piece of construction paper. Just be sure to draw the stems closer – as if they’re being held together.

You can even add some “grass” to the picture and you’re done!

If you want to add a bit more color, let the kids color the outside circle with a bright flowery color, leaving the center untouched.

You can either use a different color on the center or just leave it white.

Wasn’t that simple? This coffee filter flower craft really and truly takes five minutes. I’ve timed it.

I got tired of saying “no” over and over again, so I thought we’d come up with a simple jewelry craft that the kids could make and then wear on their own. That’s when we found this simple straw bead necklace craft and it was a perfect alternative! Plus, it didn’t turn their neck green, which was a plus.

Simple Straw Bead Necklace Craft for Kids

This week, we jumped into the great book The Arts & Crafts Busy Book: 365 Art and Craft Activities to Keep Toddlers and Preschoolers Busy and found a super easy craft for kids of all ages: straw beads! And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.

Here’s what you need to make this craft:

• Plastic drinking straws
• Colored tissue paper
• Glue
• Yarn
• Scissors

We passed out tissue paper to the kids. They chose their own colors. Surprisingly, Roo picked blue as his new “favorite” color. He’s been hung up on red for years.

Then we spread glue over the paper. At first, we used glue sticks and they worked somewhat, but we ended up reinforcing them with liquid glue. So, to save yourself some time, use regular glue in the first place.

After that, you just place the straw at one end of the paper…

and roll it up tightly. We ended up adding a bit more glue to the very end of the paper just to make sure that the ends stayed closed.

Cut the straw into small pieces with a pair of scissors to make stringable beads. Have the kids string the beads onto a length of yarn, tie it around their neck, and you’re done!

Roo adored his necklace. He wore it the rest of the evening.

Pooh fiddled with his most of the day afterward, but he’s asked to wear it everyday since.

Tigger just loved her necklace! Right now, anything even remotely girly is a big hit with her.
