Candy Bag Skip Counting Activity for Kids

December 2, 2019 by Selena Robinson Leave a Comment

I don’t think there’s a thing young children like more than candy.

Okay, maybe ice cream. But it’s got to be a close competition.

If you ever want to make math more fun, just start by switching the word problem phrase “Susie has three apples” to “Susie has three pieces of candy” and watch the kids’ faces.

They’re infinitely more interested in the outcome.

So I thought that candy would be a fun theme to use for a simple skip counting center and that’s how this Candy Bag Count! Skip Counting Activity was born!

Fun Candy Bag Skip Counting Activity for Second Grade

This is a perfect second grade math center, because it’s standards-aligned to help students practice skip counting by fives, tens, and hundreds.

Multicolor Mail! Preschool Color Sorting Game

November 11, 2019 by Selena Robinson 2 Comments

This fun mail-themed preschool color sorting activity is perfect for fine motor skills and color recognition!
Toddlers and preschoolers will love this mail-themed color sorting activity! Perfect for a busy bag!

Preschoolers love to pretend to deliver mail.

When we took our little ones to a pretend neighborhood, they all wanted to dress up as mail delivery workers and put envelopes in the tiny mailbox. It was adorable.

Since learning to recognize colors and color words is an important skill for toddlers and preschoolers to master, I thought it would be fun to combine colors and mail delivery into a simple preschool color sorting game!

Fun Preschool Mail Color Sorting Activity

With this simple color recognition activity, kids can pretend to “stamp mail” and work on learning their colors. And, after the initial setup, you can reuse it over and over again.

It’s perfect for preschool busy bags, centers, or morning tubs!

Read on to see how to get your set!

And for more color sorting fun, check out our Colorful Cubes Color and Number Sorting Worksheets!

Use this fun hands on color mail sorting activity to help little ones practice color recognition! Prep it once and use at centers or in busy bags!

Simply cut the envelopes out, fold them in half, and laminate them.

Add a hook sticky dot on the back of each stamp.

Pumpkin Preschool Size Sorting Game

October 15, 2019 by Selena Robinson Leave a Comment

Working with size recognition is such a fun early learning concept! All of our kids loved learning the differences between small, medium, and large.

My husband, who is 6’3″, was always an easy way to show “big”. Meanwhile, I’m 5’2″, so I kind of worked as “medium”. And, of course, our kids (when they were preschoolers) were “small”.

We could usually line up our hands and see the obvious differences in size.

For a class of early learners, though, it’s also good to have a quick printable activity you can go to when you’re learning about size. And that’s where this pumpkin size sorting game comes in handy!

Simple Pumpkin Size Sorting Game for Kids

This is a perfect fall math center activity for early grades! And you could  also use it to talk about same and different, as well as feelings, since each pumpkin has a different expression.

Once you laminate these mats, you can use them again and again, so here are a few different ways to use them with your preschoolers.

Mountain Playdough Shape Mats for Kids

Give your child a Do A Dot marker and challenge him or her to fill in each shape with a different color. Or each dot with a different color.

You can even ask your child to make a color pattern (one green circle, one red circle, one blue circle, then repeat it).

Mountain Themed Playdough Shape Mats

Hand out circular stickers and let your child stick them into the circles. This is particularly great for toddlers or for times when you want to avoid a potential mess. 😉

Use playdough to fill in the circles. Have your child roll small bits of dough into circles and place them in each circle to form each shape. This is excellent for fine motor practice.
