With all of the important accomplishments African-Americans have made to U.S. history, it’s hard to fit it all into one month.

So we don’t even try.

Instead, we talk about notable African-Americans as often as possible. And there are new people to learn about all the time!

If you’re ready to introduce your students to African-Americans who’ve made history, these black history figure puzzles are a perfect way to get started!

Printer (with ink)
Printer Paper
Laminator (recommended for durability)
Scissors

This product includes:

36 color black history figure two-piece puzzles
36 line art black history figure two-piece puzzles
A teaching script
And a chart of all of the Black history figures featured!

The left puzzle piece shows each person’s name and picture.

While the right puzzle piece has a picture and brief description of how the person impacted American history.

As students learn about each person, they can test their knowledge by completing the puzzles.

How to Use the Black History Matching Puzzles with Students

If you are using this resource as part of a year-round Black history unit, you might start by using the chart to acquaint students with each person.

Read through the name in each square and have students guess what occupation they think the person had.

Then you could talk about each person’s accomplishments – one at a time.

Once students are more familiar with each person, cut the puzzle pieces apart and let them practice matching them up!

Count and Clip! Acorn Spanish Counting to 10 Cards

Learning to count is such an important skill for early learners.

Which is why we cover it repeatedly in early grades.

But it’s also an important skill for students who are learning another language.

And it’s doubly important for early ESL students.

So I wanted to share a fun fall-themed counting activity that works in both English and Spanish – these Acorn Spanish Counting to 10 Cards!

11 color Spanish number word squirrel and acorn count and clip cards
11 color English number word squirrel and acorn count and clip cards
A full answer key
A line art version of the Spanish number word clip cards
A line art version of the English number word clip cards
And a set of instructions!

English and Spanish Counting to Ten Clip Cards

This is an excellent cardinality activity for students to use during autumn!

Simply cut out each card and review the number words in both Spanish and English.

Let students practice counting the acorns in each picture and finding the correct Spanish (or English) number word to match the picture!

Printable Spanish Number Word Counting to 10 Cards

If you want to use these at centers, print them on cardstock or laminate them for durability.

You may even want to put them on a ring and let students practice circling the correct number words with dry erase markers.

To teach Spanish number words for counting to ten, print the answer key cards and place them in morning tubs for review!

Maybe biting into a super ripe, soft peach. But I live in Georgia, so I might be a little biased there.

Whether you can get to an apple orchard or not this year, you can still add some apple fun to your primary lessons.

Digital Comparing Numbers Apple Picking Game

This digital apple math activity is designed as a drag and drop game, so students can use with a computer and mouse or with their fingers on a touchscreen device.

Each of the seven activity slides features:

An apple tree with movable apples
Two baskets each featuring a different numeral
Three inequality symbols for students to use after counting the apples

Comparing Numbers Digital Apple Picking Game

Here’s how it works:

Students look at the numeral on each apple basket.

Then they count out the correct number of apples for each basket and move them into the correct container.

Finally, they compare the numbers and place the correct inequality or equal math symbol in the circle.

Shapes and Sides! Digital Shape Sides Sorting Activity

Learning to recognize shapes is a fundamental early childhood education concept.

As children grow, however, we don’t just want them to know shapes by their general appearance. We want to teach them how to differentiate shapes by counting their sides and vertices (corners).

In fact, this is a required standard for kindergartners.

To make learning this concept easier, even for distance learning, I’m sharing a simple Digital Shape Sides Sorting Activity!

This is such an easy activity for early geometry lessons!

2D Geometric Digital Shape Sorting Activity for Kindergarten

This product includes three digital shape sorting activity pages, which feature nine different 2D geometric shapes.

Each of the pages has a chart with a blank “shape” column.

Students will need to examine the three shapes on each page and then count the sides and vertices (corners).

Then they drag and drop the correct shape onto the matching row with the corresponding number of sides and vertices.

Ice Cream Sounds! Short and Long Vowel Sound Sorting Activity

Is there anyone alive who doesn’t scream for ice cream?

I’m sure there must be, but I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t.

My kids (like most kids) are fanatics for ice cream. One loves chocolate, one loves strawberry, one loves cake batter, and one loves cookies & cream (like yours truly).

With warmer weather on the way, I thought ice cream would be a fun theme for an early phonics resource: this short and long vowel sound sorting activity!

Fun Ice Cream Vowel Sound Sorting Activity

This is such a fun way to help students practice recognizing short and long vowel sounds as they learn to read.

And it’s available as a printable activity for literacy centers and a digital resource, so you can use in small groups or for distance learning!

Ice Cream Sounds! Digital & Print Vowel Sound Sorting Activity

To use the printable version of this vowel sound sorting activity, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

This product includes:

Color ice cream cones for each short and long vowel sound
30 color ice cream scoops featuring CVC and CVCE words
A complete line art version
And a set of instructions!

To use this activity, print out the cones and scoops and cut them apart.

Before letting students practice, review the symbols for short and long vowel sounds – the breve for short vowels and the macron for long vowels.

Long and Short Vowel Sound Sorting Activity

Then let students practice reading each word aloud and listening for the vowel sound.

Ice Cream Themed Vowel Sound Activity for Kids

Now it’s time to start sorting sounds!

Each vowel sound has three matching word “scoops”, so students can end up with 10 triple scoop cones by the time they’re done.

Make it reusable by laminating the pages and attaching hook and loop sticky dots to the cones and scoops.

Save ink by printing the line art version!

You can let students color the cones and scoops or print the resource on AstroBright paper (my personal fav).

Ladybug Number Word Counting Puzzles

Working with counting numbers is such an important math skill in early grades.

The trick, though, is that counting numbers don’t always look like numerals. They also appear as objects and number words.

Which is why these three-piece ladybug number word counting puzzles are so helpful for little learners!

Fun Digital and Print Ladybug Number Word Puzzles

These are fantastic for early math centers! Or you could put them in morning tubs for rotations!

Pick up the printable or digital version of these ladybug number word puzzles to teach early counting skills!

Ladybug Number Word Counting Puzzles

To print these number word puzzles, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

Printer (with ink)
Printer paper
Scissors
Laminator (optional)
Dry erase markers (optional)
Astrobright paper (optional)

These puzzles include the numbers from one to ten.

Each puzzle contains three pieces:

One that depicts the number word
One that depicts the numeral
And one that shows a ladybug with the matching number of spots

After you print the puzzles and cut the pieces apart, mix them up and let students practice matching them correctly.

If you need to save on ink, a line art version is also included.

Personally, I love to use AstroBright paper whenever I’m using a line art product.

It adds a nice pop of color without using up all of my color ink.

These feature three pieces as the original set, but the number word and numeral puzzle pieces feature blank spaces.
