We’re smack dab in the middle of winter and, to be honest, I really miss spring (seasonal allergies and all). So I thought it was a great time to introduce our kids to the Spanish words for the seasons. It’s as close to spring as I’m going to get for the next two months…lol.

To learn how to say the seasons of the year in Spanish, we put together a set of free printable flashcards: English and Spanish season flashcards! These are perfect for learning how to talk about seasons of the year in English and Spanish, so they’re good for early learners, ESL learners, kids who are learning Spanish, and more!

I love learning about the Arctic with the kids. The animals that live there are so varied (and adorable).

Simple Arctic Animals Flashcards for Kids

The first set of cards are flashcards to introduce students to each animal.

Be sure to read the name of each animal aloud and have students repeat it as they look at each picture.

The second set of cards are picture matching cards with the name only.

A page of separate animal pictures is included.

How to Use the Arctic Animals Learning Cards with Students

If you choose, you can put the flashcards on a ring for use at centers. Let students practice reading each animal name aloud as they come to each picture.

Once students have mastered identifying each animal, let them practice their recognition by finding the right picture for each animal name!

If you want to make this a reusable activity, add hook and loop adhesive coins to the back of the pictures.

Students can practice matching them up again and again!

Pretty soon they’ll be naming all the Arctic animals on their own!

Fall Sight Words Flashcards

We had our first actual cool weather day here yesterday and it was wonderful.

I put on my favorite sweater, walked out the door, and enjoyed a hot coffee. Of course, we’ll have highs in the 80s again later this week, but for those few minutes, it really felt like fall had arrived.

You may wish to laminate the cards and hand out dry erase markers for the labeling activity.

Basketball Free Skip Counting Flashcards

We are huge basketball fans. My husband played basketball in high school and all of us love to watch games whenever we get a chance.

So – for my kids who are sports lovers, but aren’t necessarily math lovers, I thought I’d make a new set of free printable flashcards – basketball free skip counting flashcards! These are a fun resource to get active kids into memorizing skip counting by 2, 5, and 10!

Basketball Free Skip Counting Flashcards

To use these flashcards, you’ll need the following: (Affiliate links provided here for convenience. For more, see our Disclosure Policy.)

Printer (with ink)
Printer paper
Scissors
Laminator (for making the cards sturdy)

In this pack, there are flashcards for counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s – up to 40. And you can use them in many ways!

Play skip counting concentration: You could play a concentration game where kids have to flip over the cards that follow one another in sequence for counting by a certain number. For example, if a child turns over the 2 card, he or she would need to turn over the 4 card to have a matching pair. Then continue in order: 6, 8, and so on.

Use them for memorizing skip counting: Laminate all the cards and punch a hole in the top left corner of each. Put them on a key ring and have the kids spend a few minutes each day memorizing skip counting sequences. Be sure to put the cards on the ring in order!

Work on fast recall skills: Or you could use them as traditional flashcards. Put the cards in sequence. Then hold up one card and ask the kids what number comes next. For example, hold up a 10 and ask what child what card comes next. The child who calls it out correctly first gets to keep the next card. Whoever has the most at the end is the winner!

We’ve been working on basic Spanish with our kids for some time, but I realized recently that I’ve never shared a set of flashcards that focus on learning the Spanish alphabet. Whoops!

These Spanish alphabet flashcards are a perfect resource to help your children learn to memorize all 29 letters of the Spanish alphabet. (Yes, there are 29 letters.)

Free Printable Flashcards: Punctuation Flashcards

Punctuation is one of those concepts that’s kind of boring, but you just have to learn it.

We start talking about the use of periods, question marks, and exclamation marks in the early grades, but when kids get into their upper elementary years, it’s time to introduce other marks (colon, semi-colon, quotation marks, etc.).

So I thought I’d make a batch of punctuation flashcards for our collection of free printable flashcards to make learning this language arts skill a little more fun!

These are a simple way to add hands-on learning to grammar lessons, which can be a huge help if you have active learners like we do. Plus, they’re just plain old fun!

Free Printable Flashcards: Punctuation Flashcards

To use these printable punctuation flashcards, you’ll need the following: (Affiliate links are provided here for convenience. For more, see our Disclosure Policy.)

This flashcard set includes cards for eight different punctuation marks:

Period
Comma
Question Mark
Exclamation Mark
Quotation Marks
Apostrophe
Colon
and Semi-Colon

Try using the unlabeled cards to quiz kids on which punctuation mark is which. Once the children learn to identify each mark, write sentences without punctuation and ask which mark belongs in each sentence.

If you’re teaching punctuation to younger kids, you can probably skip quotation marks, colon, and semi-colon. But those would be excellent review concepts for upper elementary and middle school children!

Once the kids learn the correct names for each punctuation mark, try the unlabeled cards to give them a little quiz!

You can also use them to play a fun matching game – as a review!

Free Printable Flashcards Telling Time to the Hour

It can seem kind of strange to teach kids to tell time using an analog clock these days.

Most of us are used to just picking up our phones to find the time and they almost always use a digital format.

Still, learning to tell time on both analog and digital clocks is a valuable skill for young ones.

For one thing, learning to tell time to the hour can help to reinforce counting and early addition skills.

Also, it helps children become aware of elapsed time – the idea that time moves forward and needs to be regulated. (This is particularly helpful if you’re trying to get your little ones to learn to wait….lol.)

Free Printable Flashcards: Polygons

Pooh and I were working on his math lessons using Khan Academy the other day and he ran into a little trouble when it was time to learn polygons.

He’s six, after all.

For our free printable flashcards series this week, I thought I’d whip up a set of Free Printable Flashcards: Polygons!

This set includes the eight simple polygons, which makes it easier for little ones to get an introduction to geometry.

These free printable polygon flashcards are awesome for introducing preschoolers and kindergartners to basic shapes.

But since they include more complex shapes as well, they’re a good review for elementary students too!

What’s In the Free Printable Flashcards: Polygons Set?

To use these flashcards, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

Laminator (good for cards you plan to reuse)

The word “polygon” actually means multi-sided shape.

So any shape with “many” sides counts as one. In this set, though, we’re focusing on shapes with three to ten sides.

In the set, you’ll find flashcards for all eight simple polygons:

Rectangle (4-sided shape)
Pentagon (5-sided shape)
Hexagon (6-sided shape)
