Preschool Worksheets: Cookie Counting Worksheets for Preschool

One of the wonderful things about preschool is that you don’t have to teach a whole lot of math. After all, you’re working with kids that are four to five years old.

So it’s really a time for introducing the very basics of mathematics: shapes, sizes, counting, numbers, and so on.

I thought we’d add a fun twist to working on counting with Piglet with these cookie counting worksheets for preschool!

These printables include practice for counting to ten and matching like objects – two skills that are important to cover in preschool.

Cookie Counting Worksheets for Preschool

To use these cookie counting worksheets for preschool, you’ll need the following: (Affiliate links provided here for convenience. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

Printer (with ink)
Printer paper
Pencils
Laminator (optional)
Dry erase crayons (optional)

This product includes two worksheets – one set featuring color cookies and one set with line art cookies (if you want to save on ink).

Students count the chocolate chips in each cookie and then draw a line to match it to a cookie with the same amount of chips on the opposite side.

Each worksheet has five rows, so kids only have to match one cookie on the left side to another cookie on the right side.

With Piglet, we started by counting the number of chocolate chips in the first cookie.

Then we went to the right side to find the cookie with the same number of chips. Then she drew a line to match them up.

After that, there was no stopping her!

A full answer key is provided for these worksheets as well.

If you want to reuse these cooking counting worksheets at math centers, just laminate them and let students use dry erase markers!

Delicious Donuts ELA Activity Set

Donuts are life.

Okay, maybe not life-sustaining. But definitely life-enriching.

Nothing gets my kids up and out of the bed faster than me shouting “Alright, let’s go to Krispy Kreme!”

So when I wanted to share a fun ELA activity set to keep them practicing creative writing, parts of speech, and more, I knew this Delicious Donuts Activity would be a winner!

This is a fantastic activity pack for National Donut Day, which is usually in early June. But it’s a good fit for winter time, since most of us (myself included) start baking as soon as the weather turns cold.

Since these activities are low-prep, you can just print them once, laminate them, and use them at centers if you like!

Easy Scrapbook Paper Pumpkin Craft

Have you ever gone on a craft supply shopping spree? And then realized that you have way too much of something?

I have.

When we first moved into our present house, I learned about a simple way to add color to your bedroom walls – scrapbook paper!

Naturally, I bought tons of it.

Which left me with packs and packs of scrapbook paper to do…something with.

Enter this easy scrapbook paper pumpkin craft!

If you’re looking for a simple way to add easy fall decor to your home or classroom, these scrapbook paper pumpkins are perfect!

And they’re simple enough that kids can help you make them!

Easy Scrapbook Paper Pumpkin Craft

What I love about this simple paper pumpkin craft is that you probably already have everything you need to make it.

But if you’re not a craft supply hoarder (like…ahem…someone I know), here’s a list of what you’ll need to make a paper pumpkin craft.

To make this scrapbook paper pumpkin craft, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

2-3 sheets of autumn-themed scrapbook paper or patterned cardstock in complimentary colors/patterns
Brass paper fasteners
Hole punch
Scissors or a paper cutter
Ruler or yardstick
Pen or pencil
Leaf template (I made this free download) or you can buy these leaf tags on Amazon
Ribbon in complimentary colors/patterns
Beads, buttons, or other decorative accessories

Using a ruler or yardstick and pen or pencil, measure and mark 1-inch increments across a piece of scrapbook paper, about two inches from the edge.

Repeat about 3/4 of the way above the first set of marks. Connect the lines and cut.

If you have a paper cutter, you can use this instead.

Approximately 1/4” from the end of the strip, punch a hole in each end of the strip.

Repeat until all strips have holes in both ends.

Place the cut pieces of paper in the order of pattern/color you want. Line up the holes and place a brass paper fastener in one end.

Place a brass paper fastener in the other end. Fan out the pieces to fashion it after a pumpkin.

Print out the template and cut out the leaves. Trace the leaf outlines onto a piece of scrapbook paper and cut them out.

Tape or glue the paper leaves to the top of the pumpkin. Add ribbons, buttons or any other decorations you’d like.

Ta-da! We’re all done!

Make your scrapbook paper pumpkins in several colors and place them everywhere: on the mantle, on a coffee table, or even hang them over a window!

In a classroom, you might want to tape a few around the whiteboard or on the corner of your desk.

Let the kids make one and place them on their desks too!

Vowel Houses! Short Vowel Sounds Activity for Kids

Learning about short vowel sounds is part of a great foundation in early literacy.

After all, when we teach early readers to decode CVC words, the short vowel sound in the center is what separates the two consonants.

But early learners tend to remember concepts best when they get to incorporate movement in each lesson.

So these interactive vowel houses make a wonderful short vowel sounds activity for increasing phonics skills!

This is a fantastic activity for literacy centers or morning tubs! You can reuse the vowel houses and let students practice matching up the correct sounds again and again.

Vowel Houses! Short Vowel Sounds Activity

This product includes five different vowel “houses” – one for each letter.

Each house contains four CVC words with short vowel sounds, as well as matching pictures for each word.

Students can color the houses and pictures and then practice placing each picture above the correct CVC word.

You can use these with scissors and glue if you’ll only be using this activity once.

Or you can laminate the houses and pictures and attach hook and loop sticky dots for a reusable phonics activity!

Easy Scented Pumpkin Pie Playdough Recipe for Kids

Confession time: I didn’t really eat pumpkin pie as a child.

I’m from the Deep South and, down here, we tend to eat more sweet potato pie than pumpkin. At least in my family. (I honestly don’t have enough space here to write about the wonders of sweet potato pie.)

After I became an adult, though, a good friend of mine made a pumpkin pie and I finally had a taste.

It was delicious.

So since we enjoyed making apple pie playdough earlier this fall, I thought this easy scented pumpkin pie playdough recipe would be a nice addition to our fall sensory activities!

This playdough feels and smells incredible, so it’s a simple way to give the kids some sensory play while adding a nice fall scent to your home or classroom.

If you’re studying pumpkins or harvest this year, this scented playdough is a wonderful play activity for your unit!

How to Make Easy Pumpkin Pie Playdough

To make this easy pumpkin pie playdough recipe, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see my Disclosure Policy.)

flour
salt
pumpkin pie spice
cream of tartar
coconut oil
food coloring
pumpkin essence
Playdough tools (optional)
My Cinnamon Playdough Recipe

What I love about this playdough recipe is that it’s a reliable go-to activity. Once you make it, you’ll have a quick sensory activity you can whip up for the kids in just a few minutes.

Start by pouring warm water into a pot.

Then add a few drops of orange food coloring, coconut oil, and pumpkin essence.

In a separate bowl, mix together flour, salt, pumpkin pie spice, and cream of tartar.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the pot and stir well.

Heat the mixture on low and stir continuously, until the mixture starts to firm up.

When it pulls away from the sides of the pot, you’re done.

Knead the dough back and forth between your hands until it forms a smooth ball. (Little hands are great at doing this step!)

If you want to make the “piecrust”, whip up a batch of cinnamon playdough to use as the base.

It’s play time!

Give the kids a few playdough tools to flatten, cut, and shape their dough into a pie.

They’ll play with this for hours and get some sensory practice too!

Printable DIY Pumpkin Pie Playdough Recipe

Read the full pumpkin pie playdough recipe right here! You can also print it to use offline.

Pumpkin Pie Playdough Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups flour
3/4 cup salt
4 tsp cream of tartar
2 cups warm water
2 tbsp coconut oil
food coloring
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp pumpkin essence

Instructions

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, salt, pumpkin pie spice, and cream of tartar.
Mix the warm water, coconut oil, pumpkin essence, and a few drops of orange food coloring in a pot.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the pot, stirring well.
Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring continuously until it firms and pulls away from the sides of the pot.
Remove the dough from the heat and let cool until safe to touch.
Knead the dough until it forms a smooth ball. Store in an airtight container.

Counting Crows! Write and Wipe Addition Cards

When my husband and I moved to the suburbs, we started to see something we hadn’t seen before.

Crows.

Our neighborhood didn’t have many trees, but it had lots of telephone lines. And it was an everyday occurrence to see crows gathered up in groups on the lines right outside our window.

In the fall, before the weather turned cold, we’d see lots of them. Then they’d suddenly take off and we wouldn’t see them again until the spring thaw.

So I thought crows would be a fun fall or spring theme for math center activities and that’s where these counting crows write and wipe addition cards come in!

These addition fact cards are so handy for reviewing basic sums using addends up to five. Plus, you can use them over and over again, so it’s a prep once and you’re done activity!

Counting Crows! Write and Wipe Addition Cards

To use these counting crows themed write and wipe addition cards, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

This product includes 28 addition fact cards that feature addends from one to five. The sums are missing, so that students can fill them in.

Each card also shows the number of crows that corresponds to each addend. That way, students can use these objects to count up to the sum, if necessary.

Use these with dry erase crayons so that students can practice, wipe their answers away, and pass them on to the next learner!

You can even cut each card out, place them on a ring, and use them in morning tubs for quick review.

There is also a set of 28 cards featuring blank addend and sum spaces. Since the number of crows still appears on the cards, students can fill in each space and add as usual.

Pumpkin Pie Parts! Fraction Clip Cards for Kids

Fractions are not exactly known for being…the most fun math concept to teach.

I remember trying to make colorful anchor charts to bring this topic to life as much as possible, but it just fell flat. The kids were not interested in hot pink definitions of fractions on colored chart paper.

The good thing is that fractions lend themselves very well to food. There are so many foods we cut into equal parts, including pumpkin pie.

Which is why these pumpkin pie themed fraction clip cards are a neat way to make learning about fractions fun and easy to understand!

Printable Owl Number Matching Game for Kids

We’ve been on a bit of an owl kick lately. But it’s the right time of year for it!

As the days get shorter and the sun sets earlier in the evening, we’re starting to hear owls hooting more often in our area. We don’t get to see them in flight much, though.

So we’re exploring more about these winged flyers every way we can, including this fun owl number matching game!

I thought this quick early math activity would be a great addition to our Subscriber Library so that you all can get it for free!

This simple number game would be excellent at fall math centers! Just print out the cards and let kids practice matching them up.

It’s also perfect for a busy bag activity when you’re on the go with the kids.

Printable Owl Number Matching Game for Kids

Patterned cardstock (so the cards won’t be see through)
Scissors

This is truly a low-prep early math activity.

Just print out the cards, cut them into squares, and you’re finished!

This number game is versatile too!

If your students are practicing counting skills, use the owl picture cards to show objects from one to ten.

Then add the number cards in so that kids can practice matching them up.

But if your students are working on reading number words, you can let them match up the object cards to the number words.

Or challenge them to match up all three for a real math skill builder!

Tip: If you plan to use these at centers, you’ll probably want to laminate them so they’ll stand up to frequent use.

Pumpkin Preschool Size Sorting Game

Working with size recognition is such a fun early learning concept! All of our kids loved learning the differences between small, medium, and large.

My husband, who is 6’3″, was always an easy way to show “big”. Meanwhile, I’m 5’2″, so I kind of worked as “medium”. And, of course, our kids (when they were preschoolers) were “small”.

We could usually line up our hands and see the obvious differences in size.

For a class of early learners, though, it’s also good to have a quick printable activity you can go to when you’re learning about size. And that’s where this pumpkin size sorting game comes in handy!

This is a perfect fall math center activity for early grades! And you could also use it to talk about same and different, as well as feelings, since each pumpkin has a different expression.

Preschool Playdough Mats: Mountain Playdough Shape Mats

With Piglet starting on preschool work this fall, we’ve been using a lot of preschool playdough mats.

So this week I’m sharing a brand new printable set of preschool mats: Mountain Playdough Shape Mats!

These are super fun for little ones who are working on fine motor skills, shape recognition, and more!

Plus, they’re a perfect activity for preschoolers who are working on a geology unit along with their older siblings.

Preschool Playdough Mats: Mountain Playdough Shape Mats

To use these mountain playdough shape mats, you’ll need the following: (Affiliate links provided for convenience. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

Once you laminate these mats, you can use them again and again, so here are a few different ways to use them with your preschoolers.

Give your child a Do A Dot marker and challenge him or her to fill in each shape with a different color. Or each dot with a different color.

You can even ask your child to make a color pattern (one green circle, one red circle, one blue circle, then repeat it).

Hand out circular stickers and let your child stick them into the circles. This is particularly great for toddlers or for times when you want to avoid a potential mess. 😉

Use playdough to fill in the circles. Have your child roll small bits of dough into circles and place them in each circle to form each shape. This is excellent for fine motor practice.

Give your child dry erase crayons and bring the mats along when you’re going to a place you’ll have to wait.

Good choices include the doctor’s office, the drive-through, or a long car ride. Toss a basic washcloth into the car and use it to wipe off the mats for reuse.
