Colorful Birds Color Matching Activity for Kids

After what felt like the longest winter ever, we’re finally starting to see birds return to our neighborhood.

In our part of the country, we see lots of robins, cardinals, and occasionally blue jays, all of which have their unique color patterns.

That gave me an idea for a fun bird color matching activity for kids!

Just in time for spring!

This is a perfect quick learning activity for little ones.

You’ll only need a couple of supplies and you can prep it in less than five minutes!

Colorful Birds Color Matching Activity for Kids

Printer (with ink)
Printer Paper
Scissors
Glue stick (optional)
Laminator (optional)
Hook and loop sticky dots (optional)

To get started, simply print the tree color board and the colorful birds pages.

Bird Color Matching Activity for Preschoolers

Cut the birds out and let the kids match each bird to the correct color spot in the tree.

You can have them glue the birds to their color squares.

Or you can laminate both pages and use hook and loop stickers to make a reusable activity.

Preschool Bird Color Matching Activity for Kids

This would be great for a busy bag or an early learning center!

Since Roo has been working on sight words lately, I thought I’d make some spring sight words flashcards and I’m sharing them with you all today!

Learning to read sight words is a huge leap forward for early literacy skills. It’s the first step toward reading short stories.

Preschoolers and kindergartners who master sight words will be on their way to reading in no time!

These are so fun for working on early reading skills with preschoolers and kindergarteners!

Shoot and Score! A Printable Multiplication Game for Kids

If I want my boys to learn anything at all, I just have to find a way to include basketball. They are big fans of the sport and they love everything B-ball related.

So when I was ready for them to practice multiplication facts, I thought “What better way to get them interested than to make times tables into a basketball-themed game?” And that’s how the printable multiplication game Shoot and Score! was born.

The goal of Shoot and Score! is to “shoot” the correct number through the multiplication problem “hoop” it matches!

Full instructions are provided and the game can be played by 1-4 players.

This game includes multiplication facts from 2, 5, and 10 times tables.

Printable Spanish Flashcards: Spanish Color Flashcards

I hope you’ve been enjoying our Printable Spanish Flashcards series! Today I’m sharing a new set of flashcards: Spanish Color Flashcards!

I don’t know why it took me so long to make these.

After all, learning to identify colors is one of the most important concepts for toddlers and preschoolers. Chalk it up to mommy brain.

There are actually several ways to identify Spanish colors. For example, purple can be expressed as either morado or purpúra, while brown can be identified as either café or marrón.

In this set of flashcards, I went with morado and café, but the other words are perfectly fine also.

Printable Spanish Flashcards: Spanish Color Flashcards

To use these Spanish color word flashcards, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

Printer (with ink)
Scissors
Laminator (if you want the cards to last)

After they’re printed, just cut them out, laminate them, and you’re good to go!

This product includes three sets of flashcards: one in Spanish, one in English, and one blank set. A pronunciation key is also provided to help you say the Spanish words correctly.

You can print several sets and use them as a matching game.

Or you might attach the blank set of cards (the ones that only have the color blocks on them) to household objects with masking tape and challenge your kids to identify the correct color in Spanish.

There are plenty of ways to use these!

Since the English color words are also included, these would be a wonderful learning tool for early learners as well!

I don’t love winter. Not by a long shot. It’s a bit too cold for this native Floridian.

But winter is a lovely theme for preschool. Kids love working with lessons that feature snow, snowmen, icicles, penguins, and all those adorable winter animals.

So I decided to overlook my bias toward winter and share this super cute printable winter preschool activity set!

This is such a neat way to spend a day of teaching with early learners! There are three activities inside that little ones will love to do during the cold months.

Print these out and let the kids practice finishing the pictures and putting the puzzles back in order.

Superhero States of Matter for Second Graders Science Lesson

It’s time for another of our second-grade activities this week and today is all about states of matter for second graders.

Superheroes are all the rage right now and Pooh is a huge fan of them as well. So, when it was time to talk about states of matter in science, I thought I’d add a little “superpower” to our lesson. And I’m sharing it with all of you today!

Superhero States of Matter for Second Graders Science Lesson

To use this superhero states of matter for second graders activity, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

This printable second grade science lesson includes everything you need to demonstrate the three states of matter with a simple experiment.

The supply list tells you what you’ll need and the instructions, which are written to students, explain how to perform each step.

Printable observation sheets allow students to analyze the experiment’s results.

How to Use the Superhero States of Matter for Second Graders Science Lesson

In the second grade, one of the science objectives to cover involves discussing the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.

To help Pooh see how matter can change state and to help him grasp the concept, we did a simple science experiment with water.

The prodcut explains exactly how to do the experiment – step by step. It’s written in a way that second-graders should be able to understand the directions on their own.

But a couple of the steps require adult supervision, so this activity should not be done independently.

We started by observing how water changes from a liquid to a solid after freezing.

Then Pooh wrote down his observations.

After the ice melted, we observed how the water had changed (once again) into a liquid.

Then it was time to learn about the third state of matter: gas! (This is where kids need adult supervision.)

As the water slowly boiled away, Pooh was excited to learn that it was evaporating – converting itself to steam (a gas). He wrote down his final observations and reviewed the experiment’s results.

Look! An actual gap-toothed smile!

Pooh had a blast with this and it was a “super” way to learn about the three states of matter in an hands-on manner.

The Jungle Book Movie Study Printable for Kids

My daughters are huge fans of the movie The Jungle Book. I mean HUGE fans. They ask me to rewatch it all the time.

Because I’m a child of the 80s, I was initially resistant to the idea of The Jungle Book being remade. Cartoon Baloo singing “The Bare Necessities” is good stuff.

But once I sat down and watched it with them, I could understand the appeal. It’s a great film. And it’s also an excellent opportunity to learn a thing or two.

So I’m sharing a printable The Jungle Book movie study that you can use with your kids while you watch this film. After all, if they’re going to watch something over and over again, they might as well learn something, right?

Printable The Jungle Book Movie Study for Kids

To use this The Jungle Book movie study, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

In this movie study, you’ll find four learning printables that include both ELA and science concepts.

By the way, if you’re doing a jungle unit study, this would be a perfect add-on activity, particularly if you include the original book by Rudyard Kipling as a read-along.

An answer key is included in the study for two of the activities, but I wanted to keep the discussion questions more open-ended. If the kids don’t get the answers “right”, encourage them to rewatch it and find out what they missed.

There are 13 discussion questions included in the study. For younger children, you might just discuss the questions and answers together. Older kids can write or type their answers. Or you could just sit on the floor and talk about it as a family.

Kids will love to learn some cool facts about tigers in the Tiger learning activity.

But The Jungle Book has more than just tigers in it! With the Animals of Jungle Book printable, they’ll get to test their knowledge about animal diets to figure out which animals eat what.

Circling back to the film, the Character analysis worksheet lets the kids come up with their own ways to describe the principal characters of the movie. This is a great ELA activity for story retelling!

Don’t forget to use the Answer Key at the back so the kids can check their responses!

Snow Globe Grammar: Parts of Speech Sorting Activity

I am a huge grammar nerd. I’ve always loved learning about language and how we use it.

My oldest is a fellow ELA junkie, but my middle kids are…less enthusiastic about learning the rules of lexicon. Plus, I just wanted to make a basic ELA lesson more fun, especially for our rising second grader.

So we came up with this hands-on parts of speech sorting activity: Snow Globe Grammar! This is a perfect way to introduce different parts of speech to young learners – with a fun winter theme.

If you use literacy centers, this would be an excellent prep and reuse activity. Or if you wanted to make it into a one-time lesson, you could use it as a cut-and-paste activity for early grades.

Snow Globe Grammar: Parts of Speech Sorting Activity

To use this parts of speech sorting activity, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

This activity includes sorting mats for three of the basic parts of speech: nouns, verbs, and adjectives – two sets for each.

Two parts of speech cards are included, which feature winter-themed words (24 in all).

If you’d like to use this activity once, you can have students cut out the parts of speech cards and glue them on the correct mat.

If you’d like to use it over and over, just laminate the mats and the parts of speech cards. Then add hook-and-loop dots to the mats and the backs of the parts of speech cards.

Kids can place the cards on the correct sorting mat and then remove them for use with the next student!

If you introduce one part of speech per lesson, just cut out the cards and introduce the nouns in one lesson, the verbs in another, and the adjectives in another.

Let students sort them for themselves to review at the end of the week!

A full answer key is included.

Plus, there’s a line art version if you need to save on ink. Or if you just want to let the kids color the pictures on their own!

Mitten Memory: Winter Preschool Memory Game

Winter is such a cozy time for learning with little ones. I’m a scaredy-cat about cold weather, so once the daily average dips below 50 degrees, you’ll find me inside with my kids. Probably sitting directly in front of the space heater.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun winter-themed learning! And that’s why I’m excited to share this printable winter preschool memory game! It’s so fun for helping early learners work on memory skills!

This would also make a great busy bag activity. Just print the pages, cut out the cards, and store them in a resealable bag. Perfect for waiting rooms!

Mitten Memory: Winter Preschool Memory Game

To play this winter preschool memory game, you’ll need the following: (This post contains affiliate links. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

Note: You’ll be printing the pages double-sided. With a memory game, it’s important to have a design on the back. Otherwise, the kids will be able to see right through the back of the paper.

Not much of a challenge then, is it?

There are 16 sets to match up in all. If that’s a few too many for your little one, feel free to start with half of the sets until the kids become more familiar with the images.

By the way, if you don’t have room for a laminator, you can also make the cards more durable by printing them on white cardstock instead of regular printer paper.

They’ll still hold up pretty well!
