Fluffy Snowman Slime Recipe for Kids

December 5, 2019 by Selena Robinson Leave a Comment

Nothing says “winter” like snow.

Unless you live in the Deep South.

Then nothing says “winter” like temperatures below 50 degrees.

It almost never gets cold enough for snow down here, but our kids always want it to snow each year. So we’re making it snow inside with this fluffy snowman slime recipe!

Fun Snowman Slime Recipe for Kids

This is such a great winter sensory activity, whether you get snow in your area or not.

Plus, it doesn’t make a mess, so if you’re a messy play avoider (like…ahem…myself), this one won’t take you hours to clean up afterward.

What I love about slime is that kids get to help make it and then play with it. So it’s really a two-in-one activity.

And if you need some quiet time, they’ll play with slime happily for hours on end. (At least my kids will.) It’s perfect for quiet time.

In a large bowl, mix together the white glue, citrus oils, and glitter.

Then add the shaving cream, contact lens solution, and baking soda.

Finally, pour in the foam beads and artificial snow. Use a wooden spoon to mix everything together well.

You might need to add a little more contact lens solution until you get the consistency you want. The snowman slime should pull away from the sides of the bowl as you mix it.

Easy Fizzy Scented Slime for Kids

February 23, 2018 by Selena Robinson 4 Comments

Slime recipes are all over the place these days. You can find them in all different kinds, colors, and textures. But to add a little bit of science to our sensory fun, we decided to make some fizzy scented slime and our kids had a blast playing with it!

It’s hard to grasp what exactly makes slime so popular with kids, but I know my little ones enjoy playing with it. I suspect that it’s because it’s goopy and stretchy, so they get the feeling of making a mess without actually making a mess. Win!

Easy Fizzy Scented Slime Recipe

If your kids enjoy sensory play as much as mine do, be sure to check out this DIY Flubber recipe! It’s awesome for squishy sensory fun!

Kids will love the science of making this sweet scented fizzy slime recipe!

Easy Fizzy Scented Slime for Kids

To make this fizzy scented slime recipe, you’ll need the following: (Affiliate links are provided in this post. For details, see our Disclosure Policy.)

  • Flour
  • Baking soda
  • Cornstarch
  • Vinegar
  • Strawberry gelatin powder

Making Fizzy Slime with Kids

At first, I didn’t plan on using the gelatin, but I found it during a pantry sweep and I thought, “Why not?” It turned out to be a great idea.

How to Make Fizzy Slime with Kids

We started with 2 cups of flour.

How to Create Fizzy Slime

We added about 1/4 cup of cornstarch and about 1/4 cup of baking soda.

How to Make Scented Fizzy Slime

Then we poured in the strawberry gelatin powder, which made the mixture smell wonderful, by the way.

Making Scented Fizzy Slime

We added in water until we reached the right consistency. It ended up being about 1 cup of water.

Now – to make it fizzy!

I scooped out some dough for each child. Then I poured 1/4 cup of vinegar into a measuring cup and used a tablespoon to pour some into each batch.

How to Make Scented Slime That Fizzes

Voila! Fizzy scented slime!

The kids were a little unsure about touching it at first. I mean, the slime was fizzing, so I totally understand their apprehension.

Making Scented Fizzy Slime with Kids

But after a few minutes, they really got into it! Tigger, our sensory seeker, especially loved it! Then we spent a few minutes talking about the scientific reaction we were witnessing as the vinegar and baking soda interacted. That’s what makes the fizz!

This slime recipe isn’t made with glue, so you will need to actually use soap and water to clean it up. I suggest letting the kids play with it on a hard surface that you can easily wipe afterward. Just a heads-up.

Easy DIY Taste Safe Slime Recipe

August 12, 2014 by Selena Robinson 4 Comments

Slime is all the rage for kids these days. But when you’re trying to arrange for sensory play with young kids, it’s nearly always best to have a recipe that won’t hurt them if they try to eat it.

Because, as we all know, kids love to taste playdough, floam, flubber, and nearly anything else they can find. (Spoiler: Playdough does NOT taste good. Trust me on that.)

Playing with Taste Safe Slime

So we decided to try an easy DIY taste safe slime recipe that only requires two ingredients and it was a blast! Read on to see how we made this simple orange slime!

By the way, if your kids also want to…ahem..taste playdough, they can totally eat our bright blue edible playdough! Plus, it’s dairy free! Give it a try soon!

Whip up this simple taste safe slime recipe to give the kids some tasty sensory fun!

Easy DIY Taste Safe Slime Recipe

To make this slime, we decided to use a taste safe slime recipe from Blog Me Mom. For this, you only need psyllium fiber powder (like Metamucil) and water. That’s it.

We added the nonpareil sprinkles just to see if the different colors would change the slime a bit. If you use a clear psyllium fiber powder, you may want to add some food coloring. But we used the orange flavor, so we already had a color.

Taste Safe Slime Recipe Ingredients

After you mix the psyllium fiber powder and water together in the right quantities (check the Blog Me Mom recipe for exact amounts), you boil it for five minutes while stirring.

Making Taste Safe Slime

When it starts looking like this, you’re getting close.

Taste Safe Slime Recipe Process

When it starts stretching like this as you stir, you’re there!

Adding Sprinkles to Taste Safe Slime

After the slime cooled down, I plunked it on the table.

Note: It took a good 20 minutes for this mixture to cool down so that the kids could touch it safely. I ended up spreading it on a cookie sheet to get it to room temperature faster. We sprinkled the nonpareils over the top and mixed them in. The sprinkles turned the bright orange slime a burnt green-orange color. Definitely a good “ewww” color for slime.

Then it was time to explore!

DIY Taste Safe Slime Recipe

The kids were hesitant to touch it at first, but once they found out they could taste it, they were definitely interested.

Trying Taste Safe Slime

Interestingly, Pooh (who usually isn’t interested in sensory play at all), loved the slime! He played with it for about 15 minutes straight, which is a record for him. Naturally, he had to taste it. On the other hand, Tigger (who is the biggest sensory seeker in the house), hated it. Go figure.

This was such a good activity! It took about 30 minutes from start to finish and it was a cinch to clean up. Always a win!
