Like many families, our children are learning at home this school year – even our high schooler.

I’m thrilled to have her home with me again, but I’m also concerned about keeping her safe and focused on her schoolwork.

Have you been feeling the same way about your family this year?

Trust me, I get it.

We need to keep our kids healthy but we also need them to pay attention in class and keep up with their schoolwork as well as possible.

How to Set Up A Simple Distance Learning Station Safely

Since I’ve been working from home for years, I know it’s important to have a dedicated workspace. The same is true for our kids who are learning at home.

But, with four children in the family, we don’t have a lot of extra space in our home.

And, since our daughter needs to use materials provided by the school district, I was concerned about keeping the home free of any germs that might come in.

So I’m sharing a few tips to help you set up a simple and safe DIY distance learning schoolwork station this year! I hope these ideas help you make the most of your learning space for your kids too!

How to Set Up A Simple and Safe Distance Learning Station for Your Kids This School Year

How to Set Up A Simple and Safe Distance Learning Station

When the school district announced all students would be learning virtually this year, my first concern was helping our sophomore adjust to taking her high school courses online.

Then I found out she would need to use a district-issued laptop, along with district-issued materials. Which is when I started to worry about picking up harmful germs too.

Simple Distance Learning Station for Kids

So I was immensely relieved to get my hands on Arm and Hammer™ Essentials™ Disinfecting Wipes.

These disinfecting wipes are available in two different scents: Lemon Orchard and Renewing Rain. And they’re ready to go right out of the package.

How to Sanitize A Distance Learning Station

The Arm and Hammer™ Disinfecting Wipes are thick, cushiony wipes that you can use on almost every hard surface in your house.

You can even use them to wipe down electronics, as long as you squeeze the excess moisture out first.

No more worries about that germy school laptop!

Simple and Safe DIY Distance Learning Spot for Kids

Even better, Arm and Hammer™ Essentials™ Disinfecting Wipes are 99.9% effective at killing viruses and bacteria, including human Coronavirus, MRSA, Strep, E.Coli, and Salmonella. And they manage to work that well cleaning without harsh chemicals.

Which was an enormous relief to me as a mom.

Setting Up and Cleaning A Distance Learning Station for Kids

We found a simple student desk that would fit in our daughter’s room and I wiped the entire thing down with Arm and Hammer™ Disinfecting Wipes.

I also wiped down the district materials and the laptop. Then it was time to add a few decorating touches.

Easy DIY Distance Learning Schoolwork Center for Kids

We printed a poster with an encouraging scripture for the wall and added a cute corkboard. She keeps thoughtful cards from her friends on it, along with her school year calendar.

Hopefully, those little spots of positivity will keep her going on school days that don’t go so well.

And we’re ready to go for the school year!

If you decide to set up a distance learning station in your home, I’d love to hear how it goes!

Acorns Alike! Acorn Same or Different Worksheets

September 22, 2020 by Selena Robinson Leave a Comment

Until a couple of years ago, we had a massive oak tree in our front yard.

And I mean – massive.

Every year, the yard would be covered with fallen oak leaves and acorns.

Walking through the yard, the kids would always pick up the acorns and play with them.

We noticed that acorns look the same from far away. But when you examine them up close, you can see differences in them – colors, shapes, weight, and sizes.

So I thought acorns would make another excellent theme for visual discrimination in these acorn same or different worksheets!

How to Cover Flashcards Without a Laminator

September 3, 2020 by Selena Robinson Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Duck Brand Easy Liner. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have been teaching for many years – both at home and in the classroom.

Naturally, I am a flashcard fanatic. I use them and use them and use them again. I’ve even created plenty of my own.

As any educator knows, when little hands touch resources, those resources don’t last long if they’re not covered and prepared in advance.

So I tend to laminate my flashcards before handing them out.

But is there an easier way to preserve materials, especially if you don’t have access to a laminator?

Turns out there is! And you don’t need any equipment or even electricity to use it!

Keep reading to see how to use this easy method for preparing resources to use with students or in centers.

I Don’t Have a Laminator. Now What?

Have you ever been in the middle of preparing a center activity for the next day and found out you couldn’t use the laminator?

Maybe the school’s laminator isn’t working. Or the line to use it reaches out into the hallway.

Maybe you just couldn’t get away from the class to get it done that day.

Or maybe you’re a homeschooler and your own trusty laminator has finally died.

So what do you do?

You get a roll of EasyLiner® Removable Adhesive Shelf Liner and you keep right on working.

EasyLiner® is simple, easy to use Duck® Brand Clear Laminate and you can use it for all kinds of projects – from crafting to teaching.

Can You Use EasyLiner® Paper to Cover Printable Flashcards?

Yes! EasyLiner® can be used to cover paper products of all types, including printable flashcards.

It lies flat, stays clear, and doesn’t separate when you cut it with scissors.

Even better, you can wipe it clean!

Which is especially important when you’re working with early grades.

When you’re finished with a center activity and you’re ready to put it away, you can simply wipe it down with your nontoxic cleaner of choice.

Done!

How to Use EasyLiner® Paper to Cover Flashcards

Feeling nervous about using EasyLiner® clear laminate?

Don’t be. It’s truly simple.

Start by measuring the size of laminate paper you’ll need.

The back of each roll is marked with inch lines and measured in feet. so it’s simple to get the right measurements for your resource.

Cut two pieces – one for the front of the printable and one for the back.

Slowly unroll the backing paper from one corner of the laminate and lay it flat on a work surface.

Personally, I found it best to leave the printable as an entire page during this process, rather than cutting it into pieces first.

Center the page directly over the clear laminate and slowly lay it onto the sticky side (which should be facing up).

Unroll the first few inches of second piece of laminate starting from the long edge.

I like to leave the backing paper on and gradually unroll it out over the printable.

It’s easier to line up that way.

Now that you have the front and back covered, all that’s left is to cut the flashcards out.

And you’re finished!

Want to see this product in action? Watch the video below!

How Will You Use EasyLiner® in Your Classroom?

Let’s be real: teachers are some of the most creative people on the planet.

We know how to take almost anything and make it something engaging for our students.

And Duck® Brand wants to see your creative ideas for using EasyLiner® this back to school season!

Share your ways to use EasyLiner® for decorating and organizing your class or for teaching lessons in class on Instagram for a chance to win a year’s worth of school supplies (valued at $2,000)!

Two runners up will receive Duck® Brand education supplies worth $500 as well!

To enter, share your photo or video on Instagram with the hashtags #DuckBrandSticksWithEducation and #contest and be sure to tag @theduckbrand!
