June 1, 2020 by Selena Robinson Leave a Comment

Anyone else have kids who get a new toy and then are bored with it ten minutes later?

What actually happened was that we bought the blocks and they just sat in the closet for months on end.

Turns out my kids needed a little inspiration jump start.

So I’m glad to share these printable LEGO STEM Challenge Building Cards with all of you – in case yours need a little boost too.

Nothing says “summer” quite like a popsicle.

When I was young, there was a general store about 10 miles away from our house that sold Dreamcicles – a combination of orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream.

Every time the weather started to warm, I’d get excited, because it was almost Dreamcicle-time.

My kids love popsicles too, so why not add them into a math lesson?

Which is where these popsicle 1-12 addition puzzles come in!

Teach students how frogs develop and grow with this printable frog life cycle sequencing activity! Perfect for hands on science lessons!

A Frog’s Life! Frog Life Cycle Sequencing Activity

May 11, 2020 by Selena Robinson Leave a Comment

Growing up out in the country, I didn’t see many frogs. We saw a lot of toads.

Which, to me, are some of the cutest animals ever.

Once I moved to the suburbs, though, frogs were a much more common sight.

They’re usually sticking to the door of our back patio. In fact, when we walk up to the door, we can almost see through their bellies and make out their internal organs.

It’s pretty cool.

Frogs go through an incredible life cycle, transforming from water animals to land animals in the process.

Which makes this hands-on frog life cycle sequencing activity a fantastic science lesson for kids!

Fun Frog Life Cycle Sequencing Activity for Kids

This is a simple way to teach students about how animals develop and how frogs, in particular, transform from living in one environment to another.

It’s also a good activity for teaching early learners how to remember sequence of events.

These simple screen time tickets for kids are an easy way to manage personal device time at home! Use them for classroom rewards too!

Printable Screen Time Tickets for Kids

April 13, 2020 by Selena Robinson 1 Comment

For many years, we resisted giving our kids personal devices. We had several reasons for doing so.

First, we have four children, so buying four devices would be a bit of a financial strain.

Second, we didn’t want to encourage them to run off into their rooms and spend time away from the other members of the family.

Most of all, though, we were concerned about the effect extended screen time could have on our children who are living with ADHD.

So it took us a while to agree to personal electronic devices.

Once we did, though, we immediately saw the need to set and enforce screen time limits, which is where these cute printable screen time tickets come in!

Simple Printable Screen Time Tickets for Kids

If you’re looking for a simple way to regulate screen time with kids, these printable tickets can help!

Easy Screen Time Tickets for Kids

After the time tickets are printed, you can cut them apart for use.

There are tickets for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes.

If you’re planning to laminate them, regular printer paper should be fine.

But if you don’t want to laminate the tickets, you might prefer to print them on cardstock so they’ll hold up to frequent use.

How to Use Printable Screen Time Tickets with Kids

Now that you have your printable screen time tickets, what do you do with them?

Well, it’s really up to you.

You can let kids have a set amount each day (say, 30 minutes) and then use the longer ticket times to reward them.

You might hand out 45 or 60 minute tickets for finishing schoolwork, doing their chores, or even showing a respectful attitude.

Printable Screen Time Tickets for Kids

Or you could print them and keep them handy to hand out each day – after the day’s chores and schoolwork are done.

If you want to use these in the classroom, print several sets and let students “earn” them for finishing work early or helping their fellow students.

This fun ice cream themed shape sorting activity for kids is so cool for practicing shape recognition!

When I was a kid, one of my strongest summer memories is going down to the Dairy Queen to get an OREO Blizzard.

It was my very favorite childhood treat.

(In fact, it’s taking every bit of willpower in my body not to break off from writing this post and go get one.)

Ice cream is still a classic treat for kids, especially during the summer.

And that’s why I wanted to make a fun ice cream-themed learning activity for early grades – this ice cream kindergarten shape sorting activity!

Fun Ice Cream Plane Shape Sorting Activity

This is such a fun (and low-prep) learning activity for little learners!

You only need a few minutes to prepare it and then the kids will be off and running!

Just be prepared for them to ask you for ice cream immediately afterward.

Ice Cream Shape Sorting Lesson for Kindergarten

This resource includes 12 different plane shapes for students to learn, such as:

  • Circle
  • Square
  • Triangle
  • Rectangle
  • Oval
  • Octagon
  • and six more!
Teaching Early Learners to Recognize Plane Shapes

The cones feature the shapes themselves.

And the scoops are labeled with the shape names. (I used the same color for the scoop and the shape on each cone for a little hint.)

Kindergarten Ice Cream Shape Sorting Activity

A full blackline version is included as well.

Ice Cream Shape Matching Activity for Kindergarten

And there are shape labels and shape word labels for matching. An answer key is also inside.

How to Use the Ice Cream Shape Sorting Activity

You may want to begin this lesson with an introduction to plane shapes.

Start by reviewing the four basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, and rectangle) with your class. Build from there, gradually introducing the remaining eight plane shapes.

Shape Matching Activity for Kindergarten

Talk about each shape’s name as you go along. This will help prepare your students for the matching activity.

Printable Kindergarten Shape Sorting Lesson

If you’re working with early learners who are still practicing basic shapes, stick with the shape templates that are already labeled.

Ice Cream Shape Sorting for Kindergarten

But if your students are already reading, add a little challenge with the labeling printables.

They can practice finding the correct shape name for each “cone” or finding the correct shape for each shape name “scoop”.

Aquarium Arithmetic Seek and Find

Help kids practice adding and subtracting with these aquarium-themed arithmetic practice printables!

I am in the small group of people who actually enjoy solving arithmetic problems.

When I was young, I would doodle math problems in my notebook in my spare time.

My kids, though, aren’t big fans of arithmetic, unless I can make it fun.

So instead of just giving them a sheet of problems to solve, I put together a fun aquarium-themed lesson: our Aquarium Arithmetic Seek and Find activity!
